Miles Mossop graduated from the University of Stellenbosch as dux student in 1998. He then spent some time gaining experience working vintages abroad in the Clare Valley South Australia, Napa Valley California, the Northern and Southern Rhone as well as in Sicily. In January 2000 he was appointed as the the first winemaker at Tokara in Stellenbosch and completed 19 harvest as the only winemaker at Tokara until his departure in June 2018. Miles has had his own brand since 2004 and left Tokara to focus 100% on his own brand. He became a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild in 2012 and chaired the organisation in 2016 and 2017. With over two decades of experience as a winemaker and working with a broad range of varieties in many different terroirs and producing wines from mid-range to super-premium, Miles is in a great position to bring his expertise in helping evaluate and advise on most wine businesses from a winemaking and viticultural perspective. As well as having great insight into the business of wine in South Africa and abroad.

Being in a viticultural advisory position for the past 15 years has shown me that viticulture and brand success are inseparable aspects within a wine business and too often not aligned. I strive to guide brand owners in establishing a viticulture philosophy and a grape growing management system that support the integrity, longevity and success of their individual brands.
As an independent viticulturist I focus on optimising my clients technical vineyard management to match primary grape production with quality and stylistic requirements built on a foundation of sustainable farming principles. I have successfully implemented management strategies to control long-term vineyard abnormalities to increase the lifespan of vineyards and protect the investment. On a more holistic level I specialise in the redevelopment of wine farms by utilising high level technical data specific to the appellation and location of the farm to ensure future grape production align strategically with the development of the brands objectives.
